What time do you usually wake up? Is that a time that feels natural or painfully inconvenient for you?

I’m definitely not naturally a morning person, but I try to wake up before 8 or 9 am, so I can shut work off for the day by 5 pm.

Walk us through your morning! We want the full timeline; step by step.

After I get up, I head to the bathroom, brush my teeth, and wash my face with my favorite skin care. I change out of my pajamas into comfy WFH clothing. If I have a Zoom call that day or if I’m going out for an appointment, I may put makeup on. Most days, I keep things natural, and I don’t put makeup on at all after my skincare. I eat breakfast, let my dogs out, and then spend about 20 minutes training my German Shepherd who’s just over a year old! Depending on what time my husband leaves for work, I kiss my husband goodbye before he leaves. I’m in my office by 8 or 9 am, depending on whether I have a Zoom call.

Do you make time for breakfast? Whatcha eating?

I like to keep breakfast simple, fast, and light. I’ll either have yogurt, cereal, fruit, tacos, or tamales — nothing that takes too long to prepare so I can get going and start my day right away. At home, I am not a coffee drinker, so I don’t make myself coffee. Right before I head into my home office, I’ll pour myself a glass of water and iced tea or an Arnold Palmer. Having two types of drinks at my desk is important!

What essential products/items are part of your morning routine?

I definitely need good lip balm because my lips get dry throughout the day. I also have a thing for good lighting, so everyday before I turn on my computer, I like to turn on my Circadian Optics lamp and my Christmas lights in my office to wake my brain up. My last essential item is digital: my Google calendar holds my entire life and helps me manage my time!

Share 1-3 things you must throw in your bag before leaving and why.

1) I love my AirPods so I can play my favorite jams on Spotify.

2) I have to bring a journal so I can capture my thoughts with pen to paper without the distractions of social media or email.

3) A hat or a cap to keep my face protected from the hot Texas sun!

What’s a habit you want to remove from your morning routine?

I definitely want to remove the habit of scrolling through social media or checking emails before lunch. I’d love to replace that with a 5-minute prayer or meditation.

A hack that has improved your routine

I like to plan my week every Sunday night as well as have my clothes prepared the night before so that I can save my most important mental energy for my work that day.

I also utilize the Screen Time Down Time and App Limits features on my iPhone. This features allows you to see a grayed-out screen on your apps after you’ve exceeded your hourly limit for the day. This can be a gamechanger if you work from home and struggle with switching into relaxation/home mode after you’ve officially shut work off for the day.

Oop, that thing that puts a damper on your mornings every once in a while just happened again. What is it?

This hasn’t happened in awhile, but when we were still potty training my German Shepherd, he would do his business inside the house. That definitely drained my energy!

What were you grateful for this morning?

Being able to work from home, with my dogs keeping me company!
